COMELEC urges qualified voters to register while on vacation
THE Commission on Elections (COMELEC) urges qualified voters, particularly those 15 years old and above, to register for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), while the holiday vacation is ongoing.
Atty. Michael Sarmiento, Dagupan City election officer, said the long holiday is the ideal time to register while on vacation mode.
Sarmiento said qualified individuals may file their applications at satellite registration sites approved by the local COMELEC in barangay hubs and local COMELEC offices, from Monday to Saturday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Registration activities are suspended on December 24 and December 31.
The Dagupan City COMELEC office is eyeing six thousand registrants until January 31, 2023.
To register, voter is required to bring valid identification card or document (National ID, passport, driver’s license, company ID, student ID or library card, Senior Citizen ID, PWD ID, or certificate from the National Commission on Indigenous Peoples, barangay certification with the applicants’ photo and signature, or duly notarized affidavit of identification from a resident of the same barangay.
Qualified voters for barangay polls must be aged 18 and above, a Filipino resident living in the country for at least one year, and living in the area and not shorter than six months before the election day.
Voters for SK election must be 15 to 30 years old, and living in the barangay, not shorter than six months before the election day.
Application forms may be obtained at the local COMELEC office, or may be downloaded via the COMELEC official website.
Sarmiento said satellite registration in malls will begin from January 23 to January 31. (Ahikam Pasion)
