San Roque Dam’s water level still low despite ‘Paeng’
THE water level of the San Roque Dam, located in San Manuel town, remains below normal level, even after rains induced by Severe Tropical Storm Paeng hit the province and other parts of Northern Luzon over the past weekend.
As of November 2, Wednesday, San Roque Dam water level was 271.14 meters above sea level (masl). The dam’s normal water level is 280 masl.
While the water level increased over the past month, the current level may still be bad news for farmers as it may not be enough to support the second cropping season of farmers until the dry season next year.
The good news, according to Gener Quitlong of the DOST-PAGASA Agno River Basin Flood Forecating and Warning Center, is the public has nothing to worry about, as the dam has not reason to fear any potential release of water from its spillways even if another storm enters the area.
The state weather bureau estimates two or three tropical cyclones to hit the country, where these are expected to bring minimal rains, especially in Northern Luzon.
“Pababa ang ruta ng mga bagyo ngayon kaya malabong magpaulan nang marami sa atin”, said Quitlong.
Meanwhile, the Agno River Basin and Allied Rivers are still below alert level. No significant change in water level of river and tributaries have been recorded, and no adverse hydrological impacts are expected. (Ahikam Pasion)
