THE Philippine National Statistics Authority (PNSA) clarified that the National Identification card it issues is not, and cannot be used as proof of one’s Filipino citizenship, but only as proof of one’s identity.

Emily Pagador, Assistant National Statistician of the PhilSys Registry Office-Use Case Development and Management Service (PRO-UCDMS) explained that PNSA does not collect data concerning an individual’s citizenship.

She said that the PSA only gets 10 demographic information from an individual: Name, Date of birth, Sex, Blood type, Home address, Filipino resident or an alien resident and three optional information: Marital status, Mobile number, and E-mail address.

Aside from an individual’s demographic information, the PSA also takes a person’s biometrics, i.e., face, fingerprint, and iris scan.

Meanwhile, Pagador reminded ID cardholders that their Philsys numbers are permanently assigned to them exclusively, and therefore, closely guard their use. (Ahikam Pasion)
