Shanties of 27 families to give way to flood control project
THE shanties of 27 families in Barangay Bacayao Norte, Dagupan City were recently demolished by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) for the construction of a flood control project.
The barangay council said the families of illegal settlers received P10,000-P15,000 financial assistance depending on the size of the affected family.
“Aminado naman silang hindi kanila ang lugar na kinatitirikan ng mga bahay nila”, one barangay councilman told The PUNCH.
The DPWH said all the affected families were given enough time to relocate while the city government had consulted them about needed assistance for their relocation.
So far, the demolition, while tense, remained peaceful. (Ahikam Pasion)
