Rosal, Dagupan’s official flower, will adorn city
DAGUPAN’S 75th FOUNDATION CELEBRATION
SOME 3,000 cuttings of the pristine white Rosal flower, the official flower of the City of Dagupan, are being prepared to be planted in parks, schools and in conspicuous areas around the city for the observance and celebration of the of the 75th Founding Anniversary of Dagupan this year.
Mayor Belen Fernandez said the activity seeks to remind Dagupeños, especially the youth, of rosal’s symbol in history as the city’s official flower.
Scientifically known as gardenia jasminoides, the fragrant rosal is historically known to have flourished at the plaza and home gardens of Dagupeños in the early 50s.
Moving forward with the occasion, the city government will continue to propagate the tropical flowering plant to preserve Dagupan’s history, culture and tradition.
It was during Mayor Fernandez’s term in 2016 when rosal was proclaimed as the city’s official flower thru City Ordinance no. 2069-2016 authored by Sangguniang Panlungsod member Jeslito Seen, chairman of the Committee on Arts, Heritage and Literature. (Dagupan CIO News)
