PSA OKs soft copies of national ID
THE Philippine Statistics Authority announced that digital versions of the national ID cards may be downloaded.
This would apply for everyone, especially for individuals who have registered, but have not yet received their PVC-IDs.
However, Christopher Flores, Philsys Focal person of the PSA-Pangasinan, said the PSA still has no plans to print a Philsys Temporary Identification Card.
Flores said the Philsys Temporary ID card will serve as an alternative while residents are still awaiting their delayed PVC-National IDs.
According to PSA Pangasinan, as of October this year, about 2,306,399 individuals are now under the Step 2 of the Registration. This refers to individuals who are now just waiting for their respective ID cards.
Based on postal office records, 468,763 Pangasinenses received their respective IDs, while 479,266 IDs remain ‘unclaimed’.
In a Facebook announcement issued by the PSA, the electronic version of the Philsys ID is legitimate, and that establishments should accept them in the same way other government-issued IDs should be accepted.
It said the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) in its various digital formats, including the printed ePhilID (electronic Philippine ID), is a valid and sufficient proof of identity and age, subject to authentication.
Business owners are encouraged to accept said electronic IDs, as the ID holder’s identity and details could be verified through the QR code attached in the soft copy.
The QR code contains particular demographic details, and the photo of the ID bearer for easier verification.
To ensure the legitimacy of the electronic ID, the QR code may be authenticated through the Philsys Check, by going to verify.philsys.gov.ph/QrScan/. (Ahikam Pasion)
