A Super Family Health Center (SFHC) will rise in Barangay Esmeralda in Balungao town through the joint efforts of the Department of Health and the local government of Balungao.

Senator Christopher Go and Dr. Paula Sydiongco, regional director of the Department of Health in Region 1, led the groundbreaking of the project on September 9, Friday.

Senator Go, chair of the Senate Committee on Health, who was the guest of honor during the ground breaking rites, said the SFHC will provide all the primary health care needs of the residents of Balungao, with 33,000 population.

The facility will have an out-patient department, laboratory, x-ray, ultra sound and other amenities to ensure that patients needing these services no longer spend to travel to a hospital to another town.

First phase of the SFHC will be funded by DOH’s Health Facility Enhancement Program at P6.5 million.

There are 16 SFHCs that will be simultaneously established in selected  municipalities in the Ilocos Region in line with the objective of the Universal Health Care for all Filipinos.

Dr. Sydiongco said the SFHC will provide a higher standard of care than a regular health center and can provide  essential services to the people in the community.

Makakatulong din ito to our secondary and tertiary hospitals dahil mababawasan ang kanilang out-patient services dahil ito na ang magbibigay ng pang-unang serbisyo medikal sa mga pasyente sa barangay at sa mga katabing lugar,” Sydiongco said. (Leonardo Micua)
