Comelec Pangasinan to hold Candidates Forum for B/SK elections

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) Pangasinan provincial office is expecting a tension-filled Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Election on December 5 this year, if it is not postponed.

This is due to changes in the province’s many municipalities’ power paradigm as a result of the May 2022 National and Local Elections.

Atty. Nathaniel Siaden, Election Officer IV, said tensions are expected because candidates and their supporters in the barangays will likely be crossing each other’s paths daily.

Siaden said to prevent tension, cheating, and other possible violence, the Comelec is set to hold a Candidates’ Forum in all barangays, not in just selected few.

He called for the forum because of the situation, Comelec will warn teachers who will serve in the elections about being partial during the proceedings.

“Ipopost naming ang pangalan ng lahat ng teachers na maglilingkod. Kung may reklamo ay agad po itong maaaksyunan,” he added.

The teachers will also undergo training since counting of votes will be done manually.

Siaden added stronger police presence will   ensure a transparent and impartial election. (Ahikam Pasion)
