San Roque dam still below critical level

THE San Roque Dam located in San Manuel town is still able to store more water, perhaps until the end of Habagat season.

This was the projection of Gener Quitlong of the DOST-PAGASA Agno River Basin Flood Forecasting and Warning Center (ARBFFWC) in an interview Wednesday, August 24, 2022.

Quitlong said during the onslaught of Tropical Storm Florita worsened by the Southwest Monsoon in Northern Luzon the previous week only added 2.23 meters above sea level (masl), resulting in a reservoir water level of 241.93 masl according to its August 24 monitoring.

The dam’s normal high-water level is at 280 masl.

“Kulang pa ang water level natin, kaya pang mag-store ng dam ng dagdag na tubig, isang scenario na nakikita natin ay baka patapos na ang Habagat ay hindi pa napupuno ang dam”, he said.

However, despite the threat of Florita being over, Quitlong warned the public on possible water surge from upstream, specially from the Sinocalan River system and its allied river tributaries.

Meanwhile, despite the Pacific Ocean – the common birthplace of Low Pressure Areas this season becoming active lately, Quitlong said the coast was clear over the weekend. (Ahikam Pasion)
