Ilocandia logs 8K tuberculosis cases in first half of 2022
THE Department of Health–Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Region 1 recorded 8,074 cases of tuberculosis during the first and second quarters of 2022.
This was reported by Dr. Rheuel Bobis, Medical Officer IV of the CHD, in a press conference on August 19, in celebration of the National Tuberculosis Day.
Despite the region’s cases in the first half of the year are higher compared to last year, he said the department is continuing with its community immersion, regarded as the most important approach to counter the spread of TB.
Aside from information dissemination, Bobis also said TB-Directly Observed Therapy (TB-DOTS) facilities are available throughout the region for both young and adult afflicted with TB.
“Kami na po mismo ang lumalapit sa komunidad upang malaman kung may suspected TB cases sa isang lugar”, said Bobis.
Tuberculosis is an illness caused by bacteria, which is transmitted from one person to another through microscopic droplets released into the air.
While the illness is contagious, it is not easy to catch.
TB cases require months of treatment by administering antibiotics to the patient. (Ahikam Pasion)
