DepEd Dagupan set to convert more facilities as temporary classrooms

THE Department of Education Dagupan City Schools Division Office (SDO) is considering more options as alternatives to replace classrooms possibly damaged by the Magnitude 7.0 earthquake in July 27.

While Dagupan City was at Magnitude 5, it was more than enough to render some facilities unsafe.

Dr. Aguedo Fernandez, DepEd Dagupan schools division superintendent, said among the buildings damaged were the PAGCOR Building at the Dagupan City National High School, some classrooms at Pugaro Integrated School, and the covered court of the Judge Jose de Venecia Sr. Technical-Vocational Secondary School in Barangay Bolosan.

He said until the damaged structures are repaired, these will not be used for the face-to-face  program.

To address the possible problem of classroom shortage, Fernandez ordered school offices and other facilities  to be converted into classrooms.

He cited the ‘Abong na Alumni’ of the Dagupan City National High School whose facilities  will be converted into temporary classrooms.

Libraries, faculty rooms, and even other covered courts are being readied for possible conversion.

Fernandez said the checking the integrity of other structures are ongoing, as repairs of the buildings could also take some time.

Meanwhile, affected buildings and areas have been cordoned off and declared off-limits to learners and teachers. (Ahikam Pasion)
