SP tells LGUs: Support schools when classes open
THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan urged all local governments in Pangasinan to prepare and provide assistance to all schools, public and private, in their respective jurisdictions when face to face classes open on August 22 leading to its full implementation on November 2, 2022.
The resolution, authored by Sixth District Board Member Noel Bince, took particular note of the reported upsurge of COVID-19 in Pangasinan that will require continued attention amid concerns manifested by district school superintendents.
Last July 18, Fourth District Board Member Jerry Agerico Rosario invited district schools superintendents to the Question Hour to share the respective experiences when they piloted the holding of limited face to face classes during the last four weeks of the last semester of School Year 2021-2022.
In attendance were Dr. Ely Ubaldo, OIC Superintendent of Pangasinan 1 Schools Division; Dr. Danilo Sison, Schools Division Schools Superintendent of Pangasinan II; Dr. Rosario Cabrera, assistant division superintendent of Alaminos City; Dr. Marilou Cardenas, school division superintendent of San Carlos City; and Dr. Fatima Boado, schools superintendent of Urdaneta City.
Dr. Sison told the SP that during the end of last school year’s semester, all schools in Pangasinan II already underwent Safety Schools Assessment Test that evaluated the schools’ readiness, the readiness particularly of teachers and students or pupils in engaging in limited face to face activity, that included vaccination of all teachers and personnel engaged in face to face classes; but students were not required.
He said 100 of public schools, in both elementary and high school, have opened or have started their face to face classes.
Dr. Ubaldo said 531 of 650 schools in District 1, 2 and 3 in Pangasinan 1 already offered limited expanded face to face classes and 128 schools failed to do it owing to circumstances beyond the control of DepEd .
In both Pangasinan 1 and II, there was no COVID-19 transmission among students during their pilot testing of face to face classes.
Ubaldo said no school is allowed to offer limited face to face classes if there is one COVID-19 positive in one barangay where the school is located.
No face to face classes were allowed at the Pangasinan National High School with a student population of cover 8,000 and transportation for the students poses a major problem for them. (Leonardo Micua)
