Manaoag mayor acts on traffic woes

The town of Manaoag is at a crossroad between towns that have its vehicular traffic increasingly difficult with each passing year, having the Minor Basilica as the town’s main attraction, compounded the local government’s dilemma.

Mayor Jeremy Agerico Rosario, the town’s new local chief executive, admitted that coping with the increasing number of visitors is Manaoag’s number one problem.

To resolve the problem, Rosario is rushing to organize and train the town’s Public Order and Safety Office (POSO).

Rosario added that the POSO must be properly established with trained personnel so they can be deployed at the town’s choke points, particularly on weekends.

During Sundays, masses, and on special religious occasions, devotees and tourists flock to the town.

Government spaces and some private individuals have begun lending their vacant spaces to be used as temporary parking lots.

Meanwhile, Rosario has begun coordinating with the management of the Minor Basilica to urge the latter to regularly bless vehicles not only after the celebration of Holy Masses to effectively reduce traffic problems in town.

He said the blessing of vehicles after a mass is one of the activities that people come to Manaoag. (Ahikam Pasion)
