Earthquake drills not followed during Wednesday jolt – PDRRMO

By July 31, 2022Inside News

THE Pangasinan Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) expressed disappointment on observing that people that felt the earthquake did not apply what they learned during earthquake drills.

This was an observation shared by most following the Magnitude 7.0 earthquake that jolted Abra and Northern Luzon on Wednesday morning, July 27.

Rondale Castillo, earthquake focal person of the PDRRMO, said people simply panicked and rushed outside buildings and their houses in the middle of the earthquake.

This, according to Castillo, is very dangerous.

Castillo referred to the “Drop-Cover-Hold” protocol that was taught in commercial districts, schools and barangays but easily forgotten by those caught in the earthquake.

Despite the PDRRMO’s various posts and reminders on earthquake resiliency, along with the quarterly drills being implemented by the national government, Castillo said more obviously need to be done. (Ahikam Pasion)
