Dengue cases in P’sinan down by 77%
THE Provincial Health Office (PHO) has recorded 517 dengue cases from January 1 to July 4 this year, or 77 % lower than 2,200 cases recorded for the same period last year.
PHO chief Dr. Anna de Guzman said the notable decrease in number of dengue patients is due to a ramped-up campaign and information dissemination to the public, warning of the dangers and complications of dengue, and more importantly, preventive actions to be undertaken.
However, while cases this year have been lower, a notable increase was recorded from July 1 to July 14. In the said period, 144 cases were recorded.
She added that the increase in dengue cases have been anticipated, and that the Pangasinan provincial government-run hospitals are ready to admit patients at “special dengue lanes”.
So far, only one death has been recorded in Dagupan City, still lower compared to two deaths recorded last year.
Towns and cities being monitored by the PHO are San Carlos City (60), Calasiao (39), Sta. Barbara (34), Lingayen (31), Alaminos City (27), Dasol (26), Malasiqui (24), Urdaneta City (20), and Binmaley (19). (Ahikam Pasion)
