CHD to vax team: Carry on
NO EXPIRED VAX
THE Department of Health-Center for Health Development Region 1 (CHD) gave its categorical assurance that the alleged ‘expired vaccine’ issue in Dagupan City that drew flak among netizens recently is without basis.
Dr. Rheuel Bobis, in an interview Thursday, June 9, said the city’s public information office statement that Moderna vaccines administered in Dagupan are not expired, is correct.
He clarified that the Food and Drug Administration, which also based Moderna vaccine’s Emergency Use Authorization as reference, extended Moderna vaccine’s shelf life from seven to nine months.
Extended shelf life meant Moderna’s efficacy ends on July 23, 2022 and went on to clarify that the FDA extension only applies to Moderna vaccines.
“PInag-aaralan pa kung paanong palalawigin ang shelf life ng iba pang COVID-19 vaccines”, he added.
Bobis allayed fears of the public on the issue, saying that the effectivity and safety of the jabs remain unchanged.
“Wala pong dapat na ikabahala dito ang publiko, lumabas po sa pag-aaral na 100% pa rin ang effectivity nito at walang magiging masamang epekto sa katawan ng taong naturukan”, he said.
Meanwhile, 7,967,408 doses of COVID-19 vaccines have been jabbed on the eligible population in Region 1 that resulted in 3,650,204 individuals (84.53% ) in the region fully vaccinated but only 431,303 individuals received their booster shots, Bobis said.
The issue became viral when Wilson Chua, a resident of Dagupan City and also a data analyst, revealed on social media that a relative of his was jabbed with an ‘expired’ Moderna vaccine on June 7.
“Moderna Vaccine Lot # 000108A (expired May 23, 2022) was just given to a family member today”, said Chua in his Facebook post. It was reportedly administered at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome. (Ahikam Pasion)
