R1MC offers free screening test for cervical cancer

IN observance of the Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, the Region 1 Medical Center (R1MC) will offer free screening services for cervical cancer until May 31.

The R1MC said women aged 21-65 may avail of the free screening at the Obstetrician-Gynecologist Clinic of the center’s out-patient department (OPD) but must set an appointment by messaging the R1MC’s e-PacheckUp and R1MC OPD pages on Facebook.

Cervical cancer screening is one of the effective interventions to early detect cervical cases, gynecological disorders and identify risk factors causing the development of the disease.

According to DOH, an estimated 604,000 women In 2020, were diagnosed with cervical cancer worldwide and about 342,000 women died from the disease.

Cervical Cancer Awareness Month aims to raise awareness about cervical cancer and human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination that can help prevent certain types of cancers. (PIA Pangasinan/EMSA)
