Allow newly elected dads to participate in SP session – Lim

AN unusual motion without precedence was proposed by Dagupan City Councilor Celia Lim, mother of outgoing Mayor Brian Lim, during last week’s session of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Dagupan.

Lim moved specifically to invite and allow newly elected councilors to attend and participate in the council’s deliberations on the proposed Annual Investment Plan and the proposed 2022 annual budget of the city.

She proposed the motion right after the legislative body passed a resolution reiterating the invitation of the SP to members of the city’s finance committee as well as the city engineer, city planning and development coordinator and the OIC City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

Councilor Michael Fernandez countered that anybody is welcome to attend any session of the Sanggunian as spectators and do not need any need any invitation but pointed but the newly elected councilors cannot participate in the discussion since their term only begins on July 1.

Since her motion was not seconded after the brief discussion, the motion was largely ignored. (Leonardo Micua)
