Toff de V campaigns differently
RE-ELECTIONIST Pangasinan Fourth District Rep. Christopher de Venecia does his campaign sans proclamation rallies but developed a creative way to reach out to voters.
No hate speeches, hard sell of his advocacies instead he goes out to join zumba dance exercises, Pinoy’s parlor games, videoke challenge, biking, among others in coordination with barangay leaders to the excitement of many.
Since the start of the campaign, De Venecia has been seen doing morning zumba with barangay folks in different barangays.
He also initiates Pinoy’s larong lahi (native parlor games) in barangays like catching live chicken, sack race, calamansi relay, egg catch, and others because though they are simple, he says these gives “unquantifiable” joy.
He also makes the rounds through his bike series with local biking groups, and hosts videoke challenges, prompting folks to belt out their favorite songs.
De Venecia said zumba is beneficial to a person to help lose weight, get in shape, lessen stress, provides bonding with the people and excitement to the participants.
During the events, De Venecia casually shares his continuing advocacy, “Buhay at Kabuhayan” and cites the activities lined up for it: doing more infrastructure and preventing flooding, focus on education for better future of the youth and health response.
On livelihood, he said he will sustain agriculture growth and solve irrigation, fertilizer and loan problems; tourism boom, extend help to small businesses; work for the establishment of One Barangay, One Product; and promote creative industries.
De Venecia is being challenged by former Dagupan City vice mayor Alvin Fernandez and one Emmanuel de Guzman.
Fernandez issued a signed statement when he filed his candidacy, saying that, “A run against the family of De Venecia for the congressional seat is futile.”
The statement added, “However, election time is an opportunity for candidates to have a voice on what they have to say, and for incumbents to report, on what they have done.” (Eva Visperas)
