Still no 2nd booster doses available

THE Department of Health–Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Region 1 has clarified that second booster doses are still unavailable, as guidelines are still being finalized.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, CHD-1 spokesperson, said while the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has amended its emergency use authorization (EUA) to allow administering a second booster shot to healthcare workers, persons 60 years old above and immunocompromised patients on April 13, the guidelines from the National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) are still being drafted.

He said the initial target for the rollout for second booster shots was mid-April, but there was a delay in the final drafting of the guidelines.

Bobis attributed the delay to the current vaccination rollout, where mistakes had to be corrected and the process had to be streamlined.

Meanwhile, as the 2nd booster jabs are still unavailable, Bobis urged the public to get vaccinated.

Data as of April 20 shows that 81.7% of the targeted 80% population were administered their COVID-19 vaccines. There are now 7,638,907 total individuals vaccinated.

Out of said number, only 3,827,573 received their first dose, while individuals with two shots were 3,527,213.

However, only 713,34 vaccines have been administered for booster shots, representing only 25.29% of the total eligible population. (Ahikam Pasion)
