AS Dagupan City continues its streak as the hottest area in the Philippines per heat index even animals are not spared from heat stroke.

Dr. Michael Maramba, Dagupan City Veterinarian, said an average of three to five dogs in the city were reported to have suffered heat stroke.

Maramba urged pet owners to frequently check their pets specially during critical times of the day, from 10 in the morning to 3 in the afternoon.

He said heat stroke weakens animals and if not addressed immediately, they could die from it.

Aside from lethargy, another common signs of heat stroke in a pet is bleeding.

Maramba urged pet owners to place them in cool places and keep them hydrated to avoid heat stroke. He also encouraged owners to bathe their pets frequently.

Meanwhile, aside from heat stroke, Maramba said other summer diseases for pets are skin diseases and parasites. (Ahikam Pasion)
