Man drowns in San Fabian beach trying to save cousin

A man who tried to rescue his cousin from drowning died at a beach in Barangay Nibaliw West, San Fabian on April 3.

Archival Bautista, 32, municipal cemetery caretaker and a resident of Barangay Bagong Pag-asa in San Jacinto town, were with his relatives swimming at the beach when the saw his cousin struggling to keep afloat.

Bautista reportedly tried to rescue his cousin from drowning but due to fatigue and strong underwater current, he was dragged to the deep portion of the beach and drowned. His cousin was saved by others who came to the rescue.

His body was retrieved by shed owners and fishermen in the area and brought to the Region 1 Medical Center in Dagupan City but he was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician. (Eva Visperas)
