DOH warns of ‘spike’ in COVID-19 cases after election
WHO PROJECTS UPTICK
DESPITE the low average daily cases of COVID-19 being recorded, the Department of health Center for Health Development Region 1 (DOH-CHD) is anxious about an uptick in cases after the May 9 elections.
Dr. Rheuel Bobis, CHD-1 spokesperson, said as of April 20 monitoring, the agency has recorded only five active daily cases of COVID-19 in Region 1, making the region ‘minimal to low risk’ in COVID-19 risk classification.
However, Bobis noted World Health Organization’s (WHO) projection that a sudden uptick in COVID-19 cases may be expected after Election Day, as previous trends indicated same patterns after restrictions are relaxed.
However, Bobis said the indicators are not still visible and pointed to more people have already been inoculated, lessening their risks of acquiring severe and critical COVID symptoms.
Dedicated beds for possible COVID-19 patients are ready if a surge is noted. (Ahikam Pasion)
