PROVINCIAL IATF’S ADVICE SOUGHT

THE Sangguniang Panlalawigan wants the advice of the provincial IATF before it decides to restore the tradition of celebrating barangay fiestas and other social events in the province.

For this purpose, members of the provincial IATF and representatives from the Department of Health were invited to SP’s Question Hour on March 14 to clarify if the current Alert Level 1 in the province already warrants the restoration of the public celebration of barangay fiestas to further reboot the local economy.

The ban on barangay fiestas was imposed by the provincial government at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

Fourth District Board Member Jeremy Agerico Rosario moved to have the health authorities in this week’s regular meeting to enlighten and update the province on how far the relaxation of the alert level guidelines can be extended.

Rosario cited the situation in Manaoag town, where pilgrims congregate regularly, particularly at the shrine of Our Lady of Manaoag to observe and celebrate religious events.

When Second District Board Member Von Mark Mendoza sought Rosario’s own recommendation to his inquiry being a doctor himself, he said he cannot compromise the health of the people while there is no clear signal from the national health authorities but expressed optimism that given the improved Covid situation in Pangasinan, he’s “seeing better days ahead.”

He also cited that demand for services of the Pangasinan Molecular Laboratory are already low and the rate of recovery of patients is already high.

Sixth District Board Member Noel Bince seconded Rosario’s motion, saying that the SP must decide whether to amend the restrictions it has imposed during the COVID-19 pandemic and the data from the provincial IATF must be sought to guide the SP. (Leonardo Micua)
