Father Soc: Endorsers of evil candidates are equally evil

LINGAYEN-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas called on the laity anew to reject politicians and their proteges specifically those who advocate the  devil’s “seven faces of evil”:  liars, murderers, corrupt, vulgars, vote-buyers, political dynasties, and people who steal freedom of others.

In his homily anew for the third Sunday of Lent at the St. John the Evangelist Cathedral in Dagupan City on March 5, read by Fr. Marlon Allam during the 10:00 a.m. mass, the archbishop asked voters to view those who endorse candidates of evil as equally evil.

“Reject the devil in our time as the Lord had resisted the devil in the desert,’ Villegas intoned as he advised the voters “ to vote bravely like good Christians who resisted the evil.”

He described as diabolical when lies are invented in order to rouse anger and incite hatred and urged voters to stand up against candidates who conduct the campaign based on lies and historical distortions.

“The one who wins an election based on deception has no moral power to govern,” he declared.

Villegas defined corruption as lying and stealing at the same time while stealing public funds as “consummate and infinite greed” and labeled vote-buying as an insult against the poor, and a manipulation of the poor’s misery.

Synonymous to vote-buying, he said, is political dynasty or all in the same family having power in the government at the same time or the so-called kamag-anak incorporated.

He deplored political dynasty brought about by vote-buying and wields power as “Kamag-anak Inc.” and murder as a national policy to solve social problems.

He also scored people who allow freedom to be stolen, citing the illegally occupied West Philippine sea by China that deprives the fishermen their natural fishing ground.  (Leonardo Micua)
