THE Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Environment and Management Bureau Region 1 recently launched the Pinas Basura Buster (PBB) mascot and the Basura Buster (BB) Gaming Application last Thursday, March 24.

Ilocos EMB director Engr. Maria Dorica Naz-Hipe said both the PBB and BB aim to intensify the implementation of Republic Act 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management (SWM) Act of 2000 by increasing public awareness and to engage the young generation in ecological solid waste management.

She said PBB will project DENR’s image in all SWM programs while the BB seeks to boost the environmental awareness and behavior of the youth over proper waste disposal.

BB as an education mobile application can be downloaded for free through Google Playstore.

“(This) is an android-based mobile gaming application designed for kids five to eight years old,” she said.

The kid-friendly trash bins will catch all the trash by simply swiping the phone screen on the trash icons to make sure they fall to the right bins. And, the kind of trash and trash bins change as it levels up and no information is being collected from the players.

She added they plan to expand the reach of the BB through strong partnership with various local government units and the Department of Education. (Jerick Pasiliao)
