FOR VIOLATIONS OF POSTERING RULES

THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) provincial office urged citizens to report and file complaints against local and national candidates posting their oversized campaign materials and posting these in prohibited areas.

Addressing peace covenant held in Lingayen on Monday, February 28, provincial elections supervisor Atty. Ericson Oganiza said that in the past elections, many cases were filed against candidates who violated the rules on poster size and for posting at undesignated common poster areas but these were dismissed because of failure of complainants to appear during scheduled hearings to pursue their complaints.

He urged complainants to follow through on their complaints so erring candidates who violate simple electoral rules can be disciplined and appropriate penalties can be imposed.

Last week, the Comelec together with other government agencies conducted a regional Oplan Baklas and removed or tore down truckloads of illegally posted campaign materials.

Meanwhile, local candidates from provincial down to city or municipal level joined the simultaneous unity walk and peace covenant signing conducted all over the province.

Stakeholders from the government, non-government organizations have participated in the event to help ensure a peaceful campaign and orderly national and local election on May 9. (Jerick Pasiliao)
