SO far, no Pangasinense had a close call with COVID-19 infection with close contacts of   ‘Poblacion Girl’ who tested positive and attended an event in La Union.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, COVID-19 focal person of the CHD Region 1, made this clarification after two of Gwyneth Chua, who earned the moniker ‘Poblcaion Girl’, close contacts attended a fund-raising concert for victims of Typhoon Odette at Kermit Restaurant in San Juan, La Union on December 29.

It will be recalled that Chua, a balikbayan from the US where the rate of Omicron infection has been high, skipped quarantine in Berjaya Hotel in Makati City, and went to parties and dinners in Makati on December 23.

Her misdemeanor resulted in several of her close contacts to be infected, all of whom were oblivious to the fact that she was under quarantine, and tested positive after a few days.

After Chua’s close contacts tested positive, the restaurant had to be locked down, and individuals in close contact with them were forced into quarantine.

San Juan is 80 kilometers away from Dagupan City.

“Hindi po siya (Chua) taga-Pangasinan”, said Bobis.

Bobis said the contact tracing among her contacts is still ongoing, and determining whether ‘Poblacion Girl’s two close contacts also made a stopover in Pangasinan prior to their appearance in La Union. (Ahikam Pasion)
