COVID-19 bed occupancy rate 3.78 percent

IN spite of the exponential spike of COVID-19 daily cases in Pangasinan, the occupancy rate of dedicated isolation beds in the province remains low.

During the Question Hour of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan on Monday, January 17, Rhodyn Oro, Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office chief, said only 66 beds were occupied out of the 1,718 dedicated beds in all hospitals in the  province.

He attributed the lower occupancy to the mild conditions of COVID-19 patients that were asymptomatic or were just experiencing mild symptoms.

But Oro warned that continued increase in infection caused by the high transmission rate of the Omicron variant of  COVID-19 can still overwhelm the isolation and quarantine centers in the province.

He said the province-wide curfew 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. is still in effect and Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force, the Philippine National Police and other law enforcers are closely monitoring the strict implementation of measures adopted to contain the spread of covid cases. (Jerick Pasiliao)
