11 police chiefs 59 personnel rotated for May Elections
ELEVEN town police chiefs and 59 personnel were already rotated in their posts in compliance with the Philippine National Police’s policy to help keep peace and order during national and local elections.
Pangasinan Police Provincial director P/Col. Richmond Tadina said the chiefs of police who’ve been in their posts longer than the prescribed years of service were rotated to avoid being suspected to influence political activities owing to their presumed close affiliation to incumbent officials seeking reelection in the May 9, 2022 National and Local Elections (NLE)
For the same reason, the 59 police personnel were also transferred to different police stations because they have relatives or family members who are seeking local positions in the upcoming elections in their communities.
He said this is done to remove the influence of the police personnel over local political activities in the respective posts, Tadina said.
Meanwhile, Tadina named four towns in the province considered areas of immediate concern because of past election-related crime incidents in those towns, namely,
Sual, Sto. Tomas, Urbiztondo (for past incidents) and Anda town for recent incident involving a former mayor. These localities will be monitored, he said.
Tadina said the PPPO already recorded eight shooting incidents this year, these were not election-related violence but due to personal grudge and unpaid debts.
“The eight incidents were due to personal grudges or unpaid debts but the recent shooting of the former mayor of Anda town raised concern because of its timing being close to the campaign/election period,” he explained.
Tadina said movements of known private armed groups with potential to create trouble in the province are being closely monitored.
The police already arrested six individuals for violation of the election gun ban.
Tadina reminded the public that the gun ban also covers carrying of replicas of firearms and deadly weapons. (Jerick Pasiliao)
