Gun ban begins January 9, 2022
APPLICATION FOR PNP SECURITY OPEN
THE Police Regional Office 1 has ordered the effectivity of the gun ban to start for the duration of the campaign and election period on January 9, 2022 to prevent election-related incidents in hotly-contested areas in Pangasinan.
P/Colonel Richmond Tadina, acting provincial director of the Pangasinan Police Provincial Office, said gun owners whose licenses have expired may turn over their firearms to their respective police stations for safekeeping.
Tadina also reminded candidates that submission of applications for PNP security detail will end on January 8, 2022.
A candidate who wishes to have his police detail, he/she must register at comelec.gov.ph; submit accomplished forms, identification cards; and, must have undergone threat assessment to justify provision of security details from the PNP. A P500 administrative fee must also be paid to complete the process.
He did not say how many candidates have so far filed their applications for VIP security.
Meanwhile, Tadina expressed confidence that the entire province will remain peaceful until election day.
As of this writing, the PPPO has not recorded any election-related shooting incident. (Ahikam Pasion)
