SOME 2.5 million residents in Region 1 have registered for the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) Step 2 as of Oct. 31, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

In a 3rd annual forum, PSA Region 1 civil registration and administrative support division officer-in-charge Camille Beltran said 1.49 million registrants were from Pangasinan, La Union, 447,000; Ilocos Sur, 400,000 and Ilocos Norte, 164,000.

Beltran said out of the total number of applications in the region, some 312,526 have received their identification cards (ID) as of Oct. 27.

Meanwhile, 101,936 PhilSys IDs have been sent to the Pangasinan; La Union, 109,65; Ilocos Sur, 100,887; and Ilocos Norte, 52.

Beltran said PSA has been going down to various barangays, including far-flung areas to get more to register, adding that they already opened the registration for 5 to 17 years old.

PhilSys Step 2 registration involves the validation of demographic information and capture of fingerprint, iris, and face images.

PhilSys will serve a national ID and will be recognized as a valid proof of identity for accessing services of the private and government agencies. (Jerick Pasiliao)
