LOCAL authorities in Bayambang town are alarmed over rising cases of animal bites, primarily dog bites.

Dr. Paz Vallo, municipal health officer, said the town’s Animal Bite Treatment Center (ABTC) recorded 20 individuals bitten by dogs.

This, along with 22 others who were earlier bitten have become the town’s ABTC concern.

The ABTC has begun using 21 vials in one day alone.

Health authorities urge the public not to play with animals that have not been inoculated with anti-rabies vaccines.

If bitten by a dog, authorities urge patients to stop the bleeding to clean the wound, and proceed to a healthcare provider immediately.

Rabies is a deadly virus contracted to humans through saliva of infected animals. It is usually transmitted through a bite.

If untreated, rabies infection in humans would lead to death. (Ahikam Pasion)
