THE Commission on Elections (Comelec) in Sual town detected the application of almost 2,000 suspected “flying voters” a few days before the Sept. 30 voters’ registration deadline.

Municipal elections officer Eva Quinto said an unusual influx of voter registrants in the past weeks was detected and when they asked registrants to present their IDs, they observed that most of the applicants were from the towns of Bolinao, Mabini, Alaminos City, and other municipalities in the first district of Pangasinan.

“Tinatanong namin sila kung may bahay sila rito sa Sual, eh wala naman pala. Ang gusto lang daw nila ay mag-transfer lang. Ang sabi ko, hindi rason yan na magta-transfer sila at wala silang bahay dito sa Sual,” she said.

Although it is unusual, Quinto said they will still accept all applications as mandated to them by the law but these will still be screened by the Election Registration Board (ERB) on October 18.

“Ministerial duty po kami dito sa Comelec, we have to receive all of their applications. Duty namin iyan at wala kaming ire-reject”, Quinto said. (Jerick Pasiliao)
