THE stage is set for the anticipated return bout between incumbent Mayor Brian Lim and former Mayor Belen Fernandez after the two filed their respective certificates of candidacy before the City Elections Office on October 8.

Lim, who is running under the Nacionalista Party, is seeking his reelection with his sister Czarinna Lim as his running mate. The Lim siblings initially filed only five candidates in their slate for seats in the city councilor. The five includes their mother, reelectionist Councilor Celia Lim, former councilors  Alipio Serafin Fernandez, Redford Erfe-Mejia, Alvin Coquia and Dr. Ma. Lourdes Fernandez.

Celia Lim and Ma. Librada Fe Reyna are the only reelectionists in the Lim ticket.

Former Mayor Belen Fernandez filed her COC with her teammate Vice Mayor Dean Bryan Kua.  Both are running under the Aksyon Demokratiko Party (ADP), were joined by their 10 candidates for the city council, eight of whom are also running under the ADP and two under the Katipunan ng Nagkakaisang Pilipino Party.

The Fernandez-Kua line up includes five reelectionist councilors namely Luis Samson Jr., Teresa Coquia, Dennis Canto, Karlos Liberato Reyna IV and Michael Fernandez; two former councilors Jeslito Seen and Guillermo Vallejos. The newcomers are Sangguniang Kabataan Federation president Joshua Bonbon Bugayong, Anna Andrea Decano and Danila Cayabyab.

Those who filed later in the morning day under the Lim-Lim ticket were Alexander Romulo Siapno, Jeanne Marimil Tan, Mario Lim and Perry Ryan Fernandez.

The Lim team held its press conference at the Dagupan City Plaza while the Fernandez-Kua team held their own at the River Groove Lifestyle Center on De Venecia Expressway Extension in Lucao where they bared their respective platforms.

Fernandez said she is returning to her old post to bring back Dagupan to its old glory as the most competitive city in Region1 and the one of the most competitive cities in the entire country, taking pride in the fact that it was only during her reign that Dagupan became a billionaire city.

Reelectionist Councilor Karlos Reyna IV said he joined the Team Belen because he believes in the capability of Mayor Fernandez to make the city take a dramatic turnaround of the economy. He said if not for the billions of pesos of the past city administration, the COVID-19 response of the incumbent Lim administration would have faltered. (Leonardo Micua)
