RESIDENTS in flooded towns and cities alarmed by reports of more flooding on the third day felt relieved when the San Roque Power Corporation (SRPC) did not release water from the San Roque Dam when the water level already reached 280 meters above sea level (masl) at the height of the onslaught of Typhoon Maring.

In an interview on October 13, Wednesday, Engr. Tom Valdez, SRPC vice president for corporate affairs, confirmed that the while water level at San Roque Dam at 5 a.m. was already at 281.27 masl with an inflow of 673 cms and outflow of 275 cms., any release at that level is for power generation.

He said the dam has a 10-meter allowance from its normal water level which can still contain waters coming from the Binga and Ambuklao Dam.

The Ambuklao and Binga Dam have been releasing excess water since Monday, Oct. 11.

He said the release of water is considered if the amount of rainfall reaches 60 mm. per second and with a water inflow of more than 1,500 cms.

Meanwhile, in July this year, SRPC temporarily stopped its power generation as the water level dipped to 225 masl, that left farmers without sufficient supply for irrigation. (Jerick Pasiliao)
