Pangasinan still insurgency-free

DESPITE challenges to keep the province insurgency-free, Pangasinan has managed to keep it free of conflicts through the collective efforts of stakeholders.

This was Governor Amado Espino III’s assessment of the province’s response to the whole-of-nation approach on Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (ELCAC) during the  October 6 Kapihan sa Ilocos.

Espino acknowledged the vital role of the Philippine National Police, the Philippine Army and the local government units’ barangay councils contributions to the province free from  the clutches of communist-terrorist groups.

In an earlier forum, National Security Adviser and Cabinet Officer for Regional Development and Security for Region 1, Secretary Hermogenes Esperon Jr.  lauded Pangasinan and the three other provinces of the region as these are already free of insurgents which happened when the only guerrilla group was dismantled by authorities.

“Our duty is to see to it that they will not come back so we could benefit from the dividends of peace. I am confident that our leaders in the provinces are dynamic and under them, the communist-terrorist groups cannot come back,” said Esperon during a BDP orientation.

Espino joined  National Security Council Undersecretary Vicente Agdamag in the discussion of the insurgency program of the government and the Barangay Development Program.
