LAHAT ng pamilya dapat may nakapagtapos sa kolehiyo.

This thought was echoed anew by former Dagupan City Mayor Belen Fernandez on Tuesday, October 26, in an interview over Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan.

Fernandez gave her assurance that all current city government scholars will be able to finish their tertiary education, if she were to win next year’s election.

She added that there will be no partiality in granting scholarships to young Dagupeños, and the ‘palakasan’ system as seen today by scholarship aspirants.

The former local chief executive said she is already prepared to launch new programs and relaunch the successful programs that have been discontinued by the Lim administration.

Fernandez recalled the first time she won in the 2013 polls, the city government was able to enroll scholars in spite of the depleted city’s funds she inherited.

Kahit walang sapat na pondo noon, nakapag-enroll ang syudad ng 320 scholars”, she said.

Eventually, the number of city scholars grew, as 480 students were granted scholarships in 2015; 510 in 2016; 750 in 2017; and 1,345 in 2018.

In 2019, the number of city scholars increased to 1,600, and 357 were able to graduate, while 21 passed their board exams.(Ahikam Pasion)
