THE Ilocos Center for Health Development (CHD 1) reminded persons vaccinated with Gamaleya Sputnik V vaccine as firsts dose should not consider being inoculated with other brands for their second dose.

CHD 1 COVID-19 focal person Dr. Rheuel Bobis issued the warning following the delayed delivery of additional Sputnik V vaccine intended for their second dose.

He said persons who received the first jab have nothing to worry about because the efficacy of the Sputnik vaccine against COVID-19 infection remains notwithstanding the delay in the administration of their second dose.

Bobis said the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has recommended the extension of the interval between the inoculation of first and second dose of the Sputnik V vaccine to 42 days.

He said a 100 percent efficacy of the vaccine can still be expected from the first dose.

He added that getting a third dose or booster shot for COVID-19 is still prohibited in the country.

The FDA only recommends having up to a second dose to be considered as fully vaccinated, except for the Johnson and Johnson vaccine which is only a single-shot vaccine. (Jerick Pasiliao)
