SENIOR citizens in two island barangays in Dagupan City have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19 after they received the single-dose Janssen jabs on Monday.

According to the Public Information Office of Dagupan City, 140 senior citizens in Barangays Calmay and Carael were administered their vaccines by a vaccination team after they were pre-screened.

The Janssen jab, which only requires one dose, is authorized to be used for the prevention of COVID-19 for individuals aged 18 years and older.

Dagupan City Mayor Marc Brian Lim said the community-based vaccination in the island barangay is a response to the national government’s call to make the vaccination process in localities as convenient as possible.

Dr. Dalvie Casilang, head of the vaccination team, said the City Health Office noted instances of senior citizens not making it to their scheduled vaccination date last week due to the bad weather.

Dagupan City received Janssen vaccines with 1,800 dozes on July 22 and 3,500 dozes on July 28, all intended for A2 category or the senior citizens and A3 category or persons with comorbidity.

As of July 30, Dagupan City vaccination team already administered 37,427 jabs.

Of the number, 13,214 citizens were fully vaccinated with two dozes while 24,213 are done with their first doze of COVID-19 vaccines. (PIA Pangasinan)
