Region’s 78 police trainees catch COVID-19
SOME 78 trainees out of the 296 police apprentices in Region 1 caught the COVID-19 virus, the Ilocos Police Regional Office (PRO-1) confirmed on Monday.
PRO-1 assistant information officer, P/Capt. Karol Elizabeth Baloco said the trainee tested positive in the RT-PCR tests given them as pre-deployment requirement on August 11 and were immediately isolated as some manifested mild symptoms.
The trainees that tested negative have been quarantined before their scheduled deployment as part of their protocol.
Baloco said the trainees just completed the in-house training and are about to undergo six-month field training program before they become full-fledged police personnel.
“Although their training was in-house, they still get to interact with police and other staff from outside,” she said.
She added 80 percent of the police trainees were already vaccinated.
As part of PRO-1’s measures to prevent the possible spread of COVID-19, the next batch of police trainees was already inoculated with the first dose of COVID-19 vaccine. (Jerick Pasiliao)
