PRC: Saliva RT-PCR test reliable
THE Philippine Red Cross-Pangasinan Chapter already tested more than 6,000 persons in Pangasinan through its Saliva Reverse Transcript-Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) testing.
Krismar Gren Brillantes, PRC-Pangasinan Chapter officer-in-charge, said the number is aside from 2,000 others who availed of the organization’s RT-PCR swab test.
Brillantes said it is a positive development since the Department of Health (DOH) has included the PRC saliva test in all official laboratory results done in the Philippines.
He said people no longer have to take a swab test just to get a confirmation.
He added that ever since the DOH approval, the PRC and other local government units in the province have had smooth coordination in forwarding positive cases through the municipal and city health offices.
He added that in every 20 cases they test daily, one to three tests turn up positive.
Presently, there are collection sites in Calasiao, Urdaneta City, and in San Carlos City. The PRC, however, is still eyeing to establish another collection center in Dagupan City and Alaminos City.
Meanwhile, persons who want to get tested may book at book.redcross.org.ph, or call 0919 000 7913, 0919 000 7915, and 0919 000 7916. They only accept electronic and bank payments.
Brillantes said the saliva RT-PCR tests remain at P2,000. (Ahikam Pasion)
