WITH 304 active cases registered in Dagupan as of August 18, some barangay officials in the city have expressed hope that Mayor Brian Lim will finally adopt granular lockdowns of sitios and streets where many of the COVID-19 cases are located as a policy.

The growing clamor was raised after the city registered unusually high number of cases for three consecutive days: August 16 (29 cases), August 17 (45), August 18 (and 33) with only 43 recoveries registered in those days.

The mayors of Calasiao and Binalonan have started declaring granular lockdowns in areas where a surge in cases of COVID-19 were noted.

In contrast, Lim never declared a barangay in Dagupan even when the active cases reached 39 in Barangay Pantal, 35 in Bonuan Gueset, 32 in Mayombo, 25 in Lucao, 20 each in Tapuac and Malued.

In Binalonan, Mayor Ramon Guico Jr. issued an executive order declaring extreme enhanced community quarantine in Zone 5 of Barangay Capas, a compound on Zone 6 in Barangay Camanggaan, compound on Zone 5 in Barangay Limmansangan, a residence on Zone 2 in Poblacion and a residence in Riverview, Barangay Sumabnit.

Guico ordered that not one will be allowed to enter and to exit from the residences placed under EECQ.

As of August 18, Dagupan logged 2,371 confirmed COVID-19 cases, while 1,971 had recovered and 98 had died. On the same day, seven patients recovered against 33 new confirmed cases.
