NO WASTED, EXPIRED VACCINES

THE Provincial Health Office (PHO) assured the local governments that all vaccines received from the Department of Health are immediately administered to waiting recipients.

Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, said some 100 to 150 individuals are being inoculated by the PHO vaccination team in towns alone excluding those being operated as vaccination sites in cities.

She said PHO will add more trained vaccinators once the number of persons listed to be inoculated exceeds the 150-daily average.

PHO is currently targeting 280 persons daily to keep the 1:40 ratio.

She, however, expressed fears that while vaccines are used on time, the current scheduled and unplanned power interruptions may cause problems when more vaccines are delivered to the province.

She cited the delivery on July 6 of 14,947 vaccines for 25 implementing health facilities, and fortunately no shutdowns occurred. This prompted her to plead with distributors to alert PHO at least 24 hours before shutting down service.

With prior advice, De Guzman said adequate preparations can be made to ensure that no delivered vaccine is wasted. (Ahikam Pasion)
