Mangaldan‘s seniors have high COVID-19 death rate

THE Mangaldan Rural Health Unit (RHU) recorded a 94.28% of death rate among senior citizens who contracted COVID-19.

Dr. Raquel Ogoy, Mangaldan COVID-19 focal person, said the town already listed 35 deaths involving senior citizens infected with COVID-19.

Last weekend, the town’s RHU have recorded its two recent deaths.

One is a 71-year-old male who died from a stroke. He was admitted to the hospital, and tested positive for COVID-19. He died on May 8.

Another victim, an 88-year-old female with diabetes, died on Sunday, May 9.

As of 6 p.m., May 13, Mangaldan ranks sixth in the province with the most number of active COVID-19 cases with 26 patients.

Ogoy said the town averaged only ten cases were recorded in town before the surge..

Meanwhile, Provincial Health Officer Dr. Anna de Guzman said out of 336 deaths in the province due to COVID-19, almost half of the casualties are senior citizens.

De Guzman urged the senior citizens, to stay home and observe health protocols. (Ahikam Pasion)
