Region 1’s confirmed COVID cases: 12,652

WHILE Region 1 remained under the Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) up to April 30, the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases recorded in the region has already ballooned to 12,652.

This as 170 more new active cases were registered: 55 in Pangasinan, 27 in La Union; 44 in Ilocos Sur, 8 in Ilocos Norte and 36 in Dagupan, an independent component city.

This development brought the number of active cases in the region to 4,443 or 35.117% of the total confirmed cases with recovered cases at 7,864 or 62.156%; and number of deaths at 345 or 2.727%.

According to the Department of Health-Center for Health Development I, La Union continues to register the highest number of active COVID-19 cases in the region with 2,318; moving Pangasinan to second place at 1,203; followed by Ilocos Sur, 503; Ilocos Norte, 306; and Dagupan,125.

This, as 30,000 fresh doses of the Sinovac vaccines arrived on April 13 at DOH-CHD 1 in San Fernando, La Union which Dr. Rhuel Bobis, medical officer IV and COVID-19 focal person in Region 1, explained as part of  the first tranche of government-purchased vaccines that arrived in the country on April 11.

According to Bobis, the 30,000 delivery is a part of the 1.5 million doses of the vaccines committed by DOH to Region 1 this month of April. (Leonardo Micua)
