Dengue cases already up by 26%
IT’S still summertime but dengue cases in Pangasinan have already increased by 26 percent from January to date.
Dr. Anna de Guzman, provincial health officer, told Aksyon Radyo Dagupan last Thursday that 1,146 dengue cases have been reported this year but with no fatality.
Compared to last year, De Guzman said there were 930 cases but with seven deaths.
She said monitoring of dengue cases continues even during summer because people stock water in open containers because of scarcity from source.
“But they tend to forget to cover the containers which could be a breeding ground for mosquitoes,” she said.
Meanwhile, De Guzman said rabies is another summer disease that’s on its watch list due to dog bites.
Four rabies deaths have been reported in Bolinao, Alaminos City, Bani and Infanta, this year comparted to only one in Mangaldan last year.
De Guzman said rabies is 100% fatal so dog owners need to vaccinate their pets.
Meanwhile, she warned residents about sunburn, heat stroke and heat exhaustion which are also common sickness during summer.
She advised people to hydrate themselves to avoid heat exhaustion and heat stroke and avoid going out from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. when the heat is intense. (Eva Visperas)
