Tighter security set up at Pangasinan hospitals
AFTER INFANT ABDUCTION INCIDENT
FOLLOWING a shocking infant abduction at the Lingayen District Hospital last week, local officials have called for an increase in security measures at all hospitals under the Pangasinan provincial government.
Proposed measures include adding more CCTV cameras and stricter controls at hospital entrances and exits.
Meanwhile, the abducted infant has been safely returned to its family.
Dr. Jerry Rosario, board member for the 4th District and chairman of the Committee on Health in the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), said while the incident was the first of its kind at the hospital, it brought out serious security lapses.
He also pointed out that there was a lapse on the part of the parents. According to hospital protocol, a family member must always come along when a child is taken by a nurse for tests.
While the infant’s family claimed there were no CCTV cameras in the area, Rosario clarified that the hospital did have CCTV, but the cameras were only focused on the Outpatient Department, which is a high-traffic area.
To prevent any future incidents, Gov. Ramon Guico III has ordered stricter entrance controls at hospitals, limiting access to authorized personnel, patients, and their designated companions.
The governor also instructed the addition of more CCTV cameras at all provincial hospitals, though the installation at Lingayen District Hospital is delayed due to the ongoing construction of a new building. (Ahikam Pasion)
