Barangay kap a no-show at Parayno’s dare for drug testing
MAYOR PARAYNO’S DARE IGNORED
THE barangay captain of Catablan in Urdaneta City did not respond to the challenge of Mayor Julio Parayno III on the night of April 28 for simultaneous drug testing at the City Health Office to determine who between them is positive for illegal drug use.
Parayno, along with police officers who were to stand as witnesses, waited for Barangay Kap Ysmael Zabala Jr. the next morning in front of the health office, but the latter did not show up until 10:30 a.m.
Maintaining his earlier accusation that Barangay Catablan is the shipment point of shabu in the city, the mayor vowed to withdraw if he is found positive for illegal drugs and challenged Zabala to resign from his post if he is found to be drug-positive.
“His refusal to conduct drug testing with me only proves his involvement in illegal drugs,” Parayno, said.
Parayno cited the fact that it was in Catablan, right in front of the Barangay Hall, where policemen seized some 525 grams of shabu worth millions of pesos on March 11, and the arrested suspect was a son of the barangay secretary.
In December last year, the driver of Zabala, identified as Ronnie Rosario, was arrested in Barangay Camantiles, Urdaneta by the police for illegal drugs.
Zabala cannot be reached for comment as of press time.
Zabala is one of the 16 barangay captains supporting the candidacy of Maan Guico, Parayno’s opponent in his reelection bid. Parayno is supported by 18 other barangay captains. (Leonardo Micua)
