Pangasinan, highest in dengue cases in R1

By August 25, 2024Headlines

PANGASINAN accounted for about 94% of the dengue cases recorded in Region 1 from January to August this year, with 2,816 infections out of the 3,000 reported, including 17 fatalities, according to the Department of Health-Center for Health Development (DOH-CHD) Region I.

Dr. Rheuel Bobis, a medical officer at DOH-CHD 1, told Aksyon Radyo Pangasinan that the surge could be attributed to the recent rains and flooding in the region.

In the capital town Lingayen, the Municipal Health Office (MHO) is already considering declaring a state of emergency due to a significant rise in dengue cases.

Dr. Anna De Guzman, head of the Provincial Health Office, said the MHO consulted her on the possible declaration as dengue cases in Lingayen have surged to 340 cases this year from 47 during the same period last year.

San Carlos City is also under close watch, with 236 cases reported this year, almost triple the cases in 2023.

In Dagupan, the City Health Office has documented 118 cases so far, with Barangay Bonuan Gueset having the highest number at 24. Other barangays under close observation include Bonuan Boquig, Caranglaan, Lucao, and Mayombo.

De Guzman warned against self-medication and advised residents to consult a doctor if they experience fever, severe headache, pain behind the eyes, muscle and joint pain, dizziness, vomiting, swollen lymph nodes, and rashes. (Ahikam Pasion)
